ARCHITECTURE + INTERIOR DESIGN

Felipe’s bold and conceptual thinking is coupled with a considered approach to Jolie’s physical context.

What was the brief assigned to you for this project?

The ongoing discussion on the brief always referred to nature as one of the elements that should be considered. We discussed that Jolie should feel like “living in a park”, while also facing north. We clearly translated this concept through the design of the façade and landscape strategy with natural forms and soft edges to the balconies. The base of the building makes reference to the local materials found in the area, complementing the upper volume in a holistic way.

What was the inspiration behind the design concept for Jolie?

Jolie sits in between significant green spaces along Salvado Road. We conceived Jolie as a green urban connector where architecture unifies existing natural elements and becomes a continuation rather than a disruptive element. When looking at the aesthetics pursued in Jolie, the tree-shaped columns are a strong reference to Henderson Park, the Netball Centre and the Wembley Sport Park. In conjunction with the proposed landscape, elements of the facade celebrate Jolimont’s natural context.

Explain what the residents will experience when living in Jolie?

Parkside living, right at your front door, is what would best describe living at Jolie. We are creating opportunities for residents to engage with the landscape in the building and beyond the site. The rooftop terrace offers the opportunity for residents to bask at breathtaking views of the parkland and beyond.

What are some of Jolie’s signature design elements?

Designed into the built form, the tree-shaped columns will become Jolie’s signature element, providing a distinct aesthetic that celebrates the location and enriches the streetscape. This design will establish a new icon in Jolimont’s skyline, bringing a unique identity to the architecture while setting it apart from other developments in the area. I believe this might be the first building in Perth that explores this aesthetic style, reflecting Jolimont’s abundant landscape and wetlands.

Another key element of Jolie’s design is the trees on the façade which complement the building’s columns and silhouette. This is a concept we have successfully explored in the past, where the landscape goes beyond resident’s expectations and imbues the built form with a playful texture.

In which ways do the interiors harmonise with the exteriors?

The organic forms and soft edges of the architecture are translated into the interiors, creating a seamless connection between the outside and inside. When looking at the interior design, you can easily identify connections with the architecture. The arched entry in the scullery celebrates the tree-shaped columns, while the soft edges of the island bench make reference to the balcony’s profiles. Similarly, the texture of the finishes celebrates the highly textured podium. We believe the exterior and interior complement each other exceptionally well.

Masterfully curated - Considered in its vision, Jolie’s architecture is informed by its surrounding environment.

A result of innovation and integrity, Jolie’s architectural response elegantly intertwines natural elegance with contemporary design. Embedded seamlessly into the fabric of its verdant surrounds, the architecture is a modern interpretation of Jolimont’s heritage character. Visually dynamic yet sophisticated in its presence, the facade is defined by a distinct organic form, where highly-considered tree-shaped columns and inviting archways reference the natural elements of Jolimont’s sacred wetlands and abundant landscapes.

Curved recesses provide depth and dimension to the exterior, reflecting the architecture’s holistic design philosophy. Full-height windows and sliding doors lead out to an expansive soft-edged balcony, providing a sense of openness and connection with nature. Here, the artistic nature of the architecture is brought to life through exceptional attention to detail and an unwavering commitment to intuitive design. As a result, there is an undeniable feeling of ease that is carried from the entrance of the building right through to the heart of each sophisticated apartment.
